How Does ConLock Get Its Location And Communicate With The Software?

ConLock has an embedded GPS module which receives signals from the Global Positioning System. To enable the tranmission of data between ConLock and the tracking and management software, it is fitted with a Quadband GSM module, similar to most cellular phones, that can send data using the GPRS data network and also SMS messaging channels.

Do I, or my customers, have to provide a SIM card?

It is best that a SIM card is provided by you or the customer for the country you are operating ConLock in. If the container being tracked moves between countries, most cellular network operators offer roaming so ConLock will continue to work.

What happens when a ConLock-enabled container is at sea on board a cargo ship?

ConLock is programmed to automatically begin ‘logging’, or storing information, to its onboard memory. It will stop transmitting data but will begin again as soon as it logs back onto a cellular network. At this moment it will transmit all of the stored data. ConLock will store in its memory events such as door opening and will report this to you.

How strong is ConLock. Is it robust and waterproof?

ConLock has undergone rigorous tests in its development and has been approved by the major industry standards organisations and has been declared fit for the purpose of container tracking. The device and all components are protected by an IP rated casing and is specially sealed.

What happens if my container is opened without the doors being opened, e.g. if someone uses equipment to break into the sidewall of the container?

ConLock has a light sensor that will detect even the smallest change in light levels inside the container. Smart algorithms inside ConLock detects that the doors are closed, but light levels have increased and will report this as a container intrusion event immediately.

How long does the battery last?

The battery life is determined by the frequency of its communications with the software. As a guideline, ConLock will last for 4 weeks between charges based on sending a tracking position every 5 minutes. We recommend ConLock is set to transmit every 60 minutes to maximise battery life between recharges.

How much does ConLock cost? How much do cellular data comunications cost?

GSM External Container Tracker

Container Tracking System utilizes the GPS and GPRS functions in one unit. You can monitor the container location and set the system remotely. In addition, the unit will send event report if any trigger occurs.

The standard report sent by the unit includes the information: (1) unit’s ID, (2) status, (3) time, (4) GPS’s latitude and longitude, (5) speed, (6) direction, (7) device’s status, (8) event number, and (9) report configuration parameters.

Magnetic Door Sensors

The reporting mode can be categorized as ‘normal’ mode, and ‘power saving’ mode. In normal mode, the GPS will always be activated while moving, and it can be shut off the GPS when stop (for power saving purpose). To enable the maximum power saving, user can choose “power saving mode”. In this mode, the GPS will be activated only when there is a report to send while moving. The report parameters can be set from the PC setup program. CTS-100 can be set to go in sleep mode (while not moving); the system will cut the power of GPS module in order to save power. With build-in 3-D acceleration sensor, CTS-100 can select related reporting modes with respect to it is moving or not.

The device has built-in 4 Geo-fences and one immediate Geo-fence (in circular shapes); it will send the report to the server if the Geo-fence event is triggered.

An advanced use of GPS is GPS tracking. It’s the same with basic GPS, except that your location is automatically determined and plotted as you move along your route. As the name implies, it is used on something that you want to keep track of. Vehicle fleet management makes extensive use of GPS tracking. If you’ve got dozens of vehicles, say, delivery trucks, you would want to know where they are and what they’re doing at all times to ensure that you’re sticking to your schedule.
